BIOGRAPHY
Amerigo Provenzano was born in Rome in 1970. In his early childhood his passion for new technologies came into sight and, his actual passion for the latter, brought him closer to the new emerging technologies that were the first computers. This enthusiasm marked his path and changed his life for ever.
At approximately the age of fifteen his great interest and fervour for music and deejing made him dismantle his family’s record player to modify the pitch control and build his first mixer. This home-made equipment enabled him to commence his dj career.
This was the beginning of numerous pilgrimages to specialised music shops, first home-parties and mix-tapes that he used to sell to his friends.
Back in those years he listened to a radio programme starring a deejay, which made him understand that this was the future he wanted and the path he was to pursue.
In 1990 Amerigo tops his dream and finds a job in a radio station; it was not any radio station but the most well known radio station in the centre of Italy: Rds radio dimensione suono.
Working in this national radio station provided Amerigo the opportunity to understand communication dynamics, specifically how music can reach a wide audience and their musical preferences; this experience played a pivotal role in his professional development, impacting on his discos’ performance and music production.
Along with many numerous things, he brought to Rds his IT passion and revolutionised this radio post-production by introducing the hard disk recording system, which was an incredible approach, especially back in those years where common practice were reel based systems instead.
Due to his radio popularity Amerigo starts touring all over Italy, playing in clubs his “Dimensione Dance” programme and his “Top Ten Dance” chart (the latter being developed in partnership with Paolo Bolognesi) and in 1995 he was awarded the Telegatto for “the best music chart in Italy”.
All his work brought him great popularity, demands, requests and in turn hard work and further success, such as the development of top seller compilations like “Hit Mania Dance” along with recognition for the latter, by receiving two Golden and one Platinum discs.
Through his radio work, Radio Dimensione Suono became the top and most well-known radio station in Italy. However, Amerigo career was just beginning and his “turning point” was due to arrive in 2002, when one of the most important Italian Editorial Business approached and offered him to develop (in partnership with Tamburini, Bolognesi and Farra) a new national radio programme, which featured 24-7 music targeting a specific audience being youngsters.
This was an incredible and unique opportunity, which led to the development of ‘m2o musica allo stato puro’ (m2o music at its pure essence), which in a few years proved to be a total success by becoming a referral point for all Italian music lovers and a best-practice benchmark for all electronic related latest records trends.
Amerigo constantly challenged himself to further develop, through experience and IT related musical ideas he produced a new daily programme (from 3pm to 5 pm) that featured his exclusive and unique mixing method and provided the best musical production.
He later developed m2o radio first official compilation namely ‘m2o compilation’, which became this radio primary marketing tool and resulted in a great success both in terms of business development and trademark as well as record sales, by becoming one of the most sold compilation throughout Italy and winning four Golden Discs.
With a persistent eye and awareness to new technologies, Amerigo developed the first dual disk supported video mixed compilation in Italy, ‘m2o the dance night’, that also became a two-hours television programme on “all music TV” and further developed into an additional three dual disk named ‘m2all shock’.
In 2007 Amerigo developed the first live m2o broadcast, Out Of Mind, starring international Djs including Axwell, Angello, Ingrosso, Fedde, Le Grand and Cerrone.
During this period many discographic productions were launched with his name and various pseudonyms.
In 2009 he revolutionised his radio programme by changing his name and timings (from 3-5pm to 4-6pm) and turning this into the ‘Provenzano Dj Show’, involving a rapper (D. Borri), a singer (Lizzy B.) and a dubber (Gaia Bolognesi) that resulted in cross over between electronic music, hip hop, melody and words. This programme also featured special guest stars and international djs, such as Judge Jules, Laidback, Luke, Joachin Garraud and Dj Antoine.
This new programme strove hard and succeeded in becoming m2o top programme, in terms of audience and awareness.
In his live performance we find the elements that have characterised his professional development, in terms of technology innovation and research that made him one of the first professionals in Italy to use for his Dj set the Ableton Live software, which enable him to physically play in addition to mixing resulting in a mash up live that all his performances unique in themselves.
In 2009 in partnerships with his friends and Djs producers, Ranucci&Pelusi, he developed important remix for international djs: Fedde le Grand - Scared of Me; Axwell Ingrosso Angello Laidback Luke - Leave the World Behind ; Greg Cerrone - Taking Control of You ; Bingo Players – I will Follow.
Along with Ranucci&Pelusi he also developed ‘we love music’ that is a one night show where all three professionals play simultaneously resulting in a unique performance.
Whether Amerigo Provenzano plays live or in radio his ability to involve his audience and share his musical world characterised of energy and style, is undisputable.
This is for most but not all.
