Roma, 1970 · Disc jockey, produttore discografico e conduttore radiofonico
Gli inizi
Amerigo Provenzano nasce a Roma nel 1970. La passione per la tecnologia arriva prima di quella per il mestiere: da bambino compra con il padre il suo primo computer, un Commodore VIC-20. Dopo il diploma all'Istituto Tecnico Industriale Hertz sente alla radio l'annuncio di un corso della Regione Lazio dal nome insolito, Midifonico, che unisce elettronica e musica. Entra fra i circa trenta ammessi, e a fine corso viene mandato a fare uno stage a RDS.
RDS, 1990 – 2002
A RDS diventa il jolly della radio: regia, diretta, fonico, montaggio, pubblicità. Poi è responsabile della post-produzione e della gestione degli spot, e nei primi anni '90 spinge il passaggio dall'analogico al digitale, con Pro Tools e i DAT. Insieme a Paolo Bolognesi cura i programmi dance dell'emittente. Fra questi c'è Top Ten Dance, che nel 1995 vince il Telegatto di TV Sorrisi e Canzoni come miglior classifica musicale.
Nel febbraio 2002 Fabrizio Tamburini, ex collega di RDS, lo chiama al Gruppo Espresso per trasformare Italia Radio in un'emittente per un pubblico giovane. Si trasferisce con Paolo Bolognesi e Davide Fara, e il progetto parte da zero. Gli studi li disegnano e li allestiscono loro, e per mesi la radio va in onda in prova, senza nome. Alla fine di ottobre di quell'anno arriva m2o, musica allo stato puro, la prima radio italiana dedicata alla musica da club. La prima compilation esce con il lancio, nei negozi di dischi, e diventa un caso discografico: va esaurita in poco tempo.
Per diciassette anni è l'immagine artistica della radio: crea format, dà la linea musicale, porta artisti in radio, conduce nel pomeriggio ed è headliner agli eventi del marchio. Mixa tutte le 40 compilation m2o, dal 2002 al 2015, di cui 5 diventano dischi d'oro. Dal 2004, con m2o The Dance Night, poi diventato m2all Shock, i suoi video mixati vanno anche in televisione, su All Music, e questi programmi diventano anche delle compilation in formato DualDisc, audio da un lato e video dall'altro: quattro uscite, fra il 2005 e il 2007.
A metà degli anni 2000 crea con Sergio Marini Italian Deejays, un programma per le radio estere che va in onda anche in Brasile. Successivamente diventa un progetto discografico con lo stesso nome, con due singoli: Eurofolk (2005) e The Story Goes On (2006). Sono anche gli anni in cui lavora di più come remixer: in carriera firma oltre 80 remix per altri artisti, la maggior parte fra il 2005 e il 2013, e la maggior parte insieme ai Promise Land. I più importanti sono del 2009 e lo fanno conoscere fuori dall'Italia: Leave The World Behind di Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell e Laidback Luke feat. Deborah Cox, e Scared of Me di Fedde Le Grand feat. Mitch Crown, uscito su Ultra Records.
m2o, 2010 – 2019
In radio sono gli anni dei suoi programmi più longevi. Nel pomeriggio di m2o conduce il Provenzano Dj Show, iniziato nel 2008 e andato avanti fino al 2016, con Manuela Doriani: musica nuova mixata, ospiti internazionali, interviste. Dal 2016 al 2019 conduce Music Zone: il primo anno con Manuela Doriani e Leandro Da Silva, il secondo con Renee' La Bulgara e Don Cash. Il programma porta una grande innovazione, la diretta in contemporanea in radio e su Facebook, e ha anche una versione televisiva, l'edizione Festival, in onda su Sky dal 2018. Nel fine settimana, dal 2010 al 2018, c'è il Provenzano DJ Show Deluxe, con i guest mix dei dj ospiti. Dal 2015 al 2017 porta un suo programma anche a Miami, l'Happiness Radio Show, su Revolution 93.5 FM.
Nel 2017 esce Folegandros, con Federico Scavo, uno dei brani più famosi che ha prodotto. È una delle sue tre uscite su Spinnin' Records, una delle etichette dance più importanti del mondo: Folegandros su Cartel Music, Serifos (2017) su Doorn Records e Babele con The Cube Guys (2018) su SPRS.
Dal 2016 al 2018 mixa le nove compilation della serie m2o Xperience, che con le 40 della serie m2o compilation e i 4 DualDisc fanno 53 uscite, più della metà delle oltre 90 firmate in tutta la sua carriera. In tutto, le sue compilation hanno venduto quasi 3 milioni di copie.
Da romano e tifoso romanista, in quegli anni realizza due sogni. Il 28 giugno 2012 suona allo Stadio Olimpico, al Soundrome Festival, presentato qualche settimana prima in via Condotti con lui in consolle insieme a Usain Bolt, e il 21 marzo 2018 all'Olimpico ci gioca, alla Love Cup, con la maglia numero 9. Dal 2015 al 2018 è di casa al Privilege di Ibiza, il club più grande del mondo: oltre 10 date, prima come resident guest per La Isla, poi con l'Ibiza Paint Party e Rich Bitch. Nel 2017 e nel 2018 suona al Balaton Sound, in Ungheria. Dal 2017 al 2019 è giurato del Tour Music Fest per la categoria DJ.
Nel marzo 2019, dopo diciassette anni, si chiude la sua esperienza a m2o.
In quegli anni nasce Crossover, il suo nuovo programma radiofonico: una selezione settimanale delle uscite musicali, scelte come al solito con il suo stile inconfondibile.
Nel 2024 diventa anche un format social, e oggi esce in tre versioni: quella social su Instagram ogni venerdì, quella radio su Radio RIN e quella mixata su Mixcloud, con in più una playlist su Spotify.
È una rubrica seguitissima da appassionati e addetti ai lavori, arrivata a oltre 330 puntate e più di 6.000 brani selezionati.
Con oltre 200 dischi in discografia, fra produzioni sue e remix, oggi come produttore guarda soprattutto al mercato internazionale: La Trompeta (2022) con Paul Jockey, Barranquilla (2024) con Andrea Gulisano e Mathieu Ruz su Stealth Records, Super Paradise (2024) su Blanco y Negro, Tiki Taka (2025) con Andrea Gulisano su Revealed, La Flauta Magica (2026) con Gabry Sangineto, di nuovo su Stealth Records.
Nel 2026 esce anche la sua versione di Anima Libera, che è un caso a parte. La versione originale l'ha portata al successo lui, con il volume 6 della compilation di m2o nel 2004, e da allora per il pubblico è un suo brano, anche se non lo è. Dopo tanti anni si realizza un sogno: farne una versione sua. Rimane il brano più richiesto nei suoi live in giro per l'Italia.
Fuori dalla consolle c'è volumevisivo, la sua agenzia: contenuti visivi creati con l'IA, al servizio di etichette, artisti, dj e creator. È la stessa doppia natura, musica e tecnologia, del bambino del VIC-20.
È stato per anni il capitano della Nazionale Italiana Deejay, la squadra di calcio dei dj, al fianco del compianto presidente Guido Gheri.
In pista non si è mai fermato. Dai primi anni con RDS agli anni di m2o, fino a oggi, gli eventi sono oltre 1.000: in tutte le 20 regioni italiane e in 473 località, più 89 date all'estero in 15 nazioni, per più di un milione di chilometri, ventisei volte il giro della Terra.
Fra i club di riferimento ci sono Spazio 900 a Roma, Baia Imperiale a Gabicce Mare, Privilege a Ibiza, Samsara e Praja a Gallipoli, Aquafan a Riccione, Altromondo Studios a Rimini, Fabrique a Milano e Tito's a Palma de Mallorca. Il tour continua, perché, come dice lui, non è solo tecnica ma la capacità di comunicare qualcosa a chi ti ascolta.

The beginnings
Amerigo Provenzano was born in Rome in 1970. His passion for technology came before his passion for the job: as a child he bought his first computer with his father, a Commodore VIC-20. After graduating from the Hertz technical high school, he heard a radio announcement for a course run by the Lazio Region with an unusual name, Midifonico, combining electronics and music. He was one of about thirty students admitted, and at the end of the course he was sent on an internship at RDS.
RDS, 1990 – 2002
At RDS he became the station's all-rounder: studio direction, live shows, sound engineering, editing, commercials. He then headed post-production and commercial scheduling, and in the early '90s he pushed the switch from analogue to digital, with Pro Tools and DAT. Together with Paolo Bolognesi he looked after the station's dance programming. One of those shows, Top Ten Dance, won the Telegatto award from TV Sorrisi e Canzoni for best music chart in 1995.
In February 2002 Fabrizio Tamburini, a former RDS colleague, called him to Gruppo Espresso to turn Italia Radio into a station for a young audience. He moved there with Paolo Bolognesi and Davide Fara, and the project started from scratch. They designed and built the studios themselves, and for months the station broadcast in test mode, without a name. At the end of October that year m2o arrived, "musica allo stato puro" (music in its purest form), Italy's first radio station dedicated to club music. The first compilation came out with the launch, in record shops, and became a phenomenon: it sold out in no time.
For seventeen years he was the station's artistic face: he created formats, set the musical direction, brought artists on air, hosted the afternoon slot and headlined the brand's events. He mixed all 40 m2o compilations, from 2002 to 2015, five of which went gold. From 2004, with m2o The Dance Night, later renamed m2all Shock, his video mixes also went on television, on All Music, and these shows became compilations too, in DualDisc format, audio on one side and video on the other: four releases between 2005 and 2007.
In the mid-2000s he created Italian Deejays with Sergio Marini, a show for foreign radio stations that was also broadcast in Brazil. It later became a recording project of the same name, with two singles: Eurofolk (2005) and The Story Goes On (2006). These were also the years in which he worked most as a remixer: over his career he has signed more than 80 remixes for other artists, most of them between 2005 and 2013, and most of them together with Promise Land. The most important date from 2009 and made his name outside Italy: Leave The World Behind by Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Laidback Luke feat. m2o, 2010 – 2019
On the radio, these were the years of his longest-running shows. In the m2o afternoon slot he hosted the Provenzano Dj Show, which started in 2008 and ran until 2016, with Manuela Doriani: new music, mixed, international guests, interviews. From 2016 to 2019 he hosted Music Zone: the first year with Manuela Doriani and Leandro Da Silva, the second with Renee' La Bulgara and Don Cash. The show brought a major innovation, live broadcasting on radio and Facebook at the same time, and it also had a television version, the Festival edition, on Sky from 2018. At weekends, from 2010 to 2018, there was the Provenzano DJ Show Deluxe, featuring guest mixes from visiting DJs. From 2015 to 2017 he also took a show of his own to Miami, the Happiness Radio Show, on Revolution 93.5 FM.
In 2017 came Folegandros, with Federico Scavo, one of the best-known tracks he has produced. It is one of his three releases on Spinnin' Records, one of the most important dance labels in the world: Folegandros on Cartel Music, Serifos (2017) on Doorn Records and Babele with The Cube Guys (2018) on SPRS.
From 2016 to 2018 he mixed the nine compilations of the m2o Xperience series, which together with the 40 m2o compilations and the 4 DualDiscs make 53 releases, more than half of the over 90 he has signed in his whole career. In total, his compilations have sold almost 3 million copies.
As a Roman and an AS Roma fan, in those years he made two dreams come true. On 28 June 2012 he played at the Stadio Olimpico, at the Soundrome Festival, launched a few weeks earlier in Via Condotti with him on the decks alongside Usain Bolt, and on 21 March 2018 he played football at the Olimpico, at the Love Cup, wearing the number 9 shirt. From 2015 to 2018 the Privilege in Ibiza, the largest club in the world, became a second home: more than 10 dates, first as resident guest for La Isla, then with Ibiza Paint Party and Rich Bitch. In 2017 and 2018 he played at Balaton Sound, in Hungary. From 2017 to 2019 he sat on the jury of the Tour Music Fest for the DJ category.
In March 2019, after seventeen years, his time at m2o came to an end.
In those years Crossover was born, his new radio show: a weekly selection of new releases, chosen as always in his unmistakable style.
In 2024 it also became a social format, and today it comes out in three versions: the social version on Instagram every Friday, the radio version on Radio RIN and the mixed version on Mixcloud, plus a playlist on Spotify.
It is a series closely followed by fans and industry insiders alike, now past 330 episodes and more than 6,000 tracks selected.
With over 200 records in his discography, between his own productions and remixes, today as a producer he looks above all to the international market: La Trompeta (2022) with Paul Jockey, Barranquilla (2024) with Andrea Gulisano and Mathieu Ruz on Stealth Records, Super Paradise (2024) on Blanco y Negro, Tiki Taka (2025) with Andrea Gulisano on Revealed, La Flauta Magica (2026) with Gabry Sangineto, again on Stealth Records.
In 2026 he also released his own version of Anima Libera, which is a special case. He was the one who made the original a hit, with volume 6 of the m2o compilation in 2004, and ever since the public has thought of it as his track, even though it isn't. After many years a dream came true: making his own version. It is still the most requested track at his live shows across Italy.
Outside the DJ booth there is volumevisivo, his agency: visual content created with AI, for labels, artists, DJs and creators. It is the same dual nature, music and technology, of the boy with the VIC-20.
For many years he was captain of the Nazionale Italiana Deejay, the Italian DJs' football team, alongside its late president Guido Gheri.
He has never stopped playing live. From his early years at RDS, through the m2o years, up to today, he has played more than 1,000 events: in all 20 Italian regions and in 473 towns, plus 89 dates abroad in 15 countries, for more than a million kilometres, twenty-six times around the Earth.
Among his key clubs are Spazio 900 in Rome, Baia Imperiale in Gabicce Mare, Privilege in Ibiza, Samsara and Praja in Gallipoli, Aquafan in Riccione, Altromondo Studios in Rimini, Fabrique in Milan and Tito's in Palma de Mallorca. He keeps touring because, as he puts it, it is not just about technique but about the ability to communicate something to the people listening to you.
